Waiting on Wednesday (#16)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine,
which spotlights upcoming books we can't wait to read.

My WoW for this week is:

Deity (Covenant #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Goodreads Summary:
"History is on repeat, and things didn't go so well the last time. "

Alexandria isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday--to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she's a goner... and so is Aiden.

If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"--which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time--she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.

But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she's caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed... and destroyed.

Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate...

My thoughts:
OK I  have a confession to make. I've only read Half-Blood so far. So why do you ask am I desperately awaiting this book? Because I know I will love it because I just love anything this woman writes. Everything I have read by her has been amazing and that includes Half-Blood. I really want to read Pure but just haven't gotten around to it yet. I only have Half-Blood on kindle but I really want to get the series in paperback. I just love the covers. They need to be sitting proudly on my selves for everyone to see :)

Expected Release Date: November 6th 2012

UtopYA Con: Where all the cool kids go to meet their favorite female authors

It’s time to get excited and to get to Nashville for the first ever UtopYA Con, which is the
convention for female, paranormal/fantasy young adult authors and readers who love them. It will be held at the Scarritt-Bennett Center in Nashville, TN on July 6-8, 2012.
Would you like to come? You’re already excited I know, but wait until I tell you who’s coming (and this is just a few)… Myra McEntire (Hourglass and Timepiece), Angeline Kace (Descended by Blood), Amy Bartol (The Premonition Series), Tammy Blackwell (Timber Wolves), Tiffany King (Saving Angels), Abbi Glines (The Vincent Boys), Ella James (Stained), Jessica Sorenson (Fallen Star), and so many more! You can find the full list at the UtopYA Con website.

Here’s what a few of them are saying about going to UtopYA Con:

Raine Thomas (Daughters of Saraquel)- “"The world's been waiting for a conference like UtopYA. It's unique and in a class of its own. If you enjoy YA fantasy and paranormal stories, you can't miss this event!”

Chelsea Fine (Sophie and Carter)- “"Don't miss out on UtopYa Con 2012: Bringing your YA books to life!"

Brina Courtney (Cryptid Tales)- “If you’re a true YA fan, you’ll be there, mixing it up with all of us.”

But it’s not just for fans, it’s for authors too. Learn the tricks of the trade from people who are there, doing it successfully already. There are sessions and panels for both readers and writers alike.

So how about it? You wanna go? Well obviously you do, but here’s the question… ARE YOU GOING?

Here’s where you can find out more about tickets.

Now, so maybe you’re awesome, but you can’t go, and you’re bummed obviously. Well you still want to participate right? Here’s your chance, from now until June 29th, 2012 you can vote for your favorite books to win UtopYA Con awards, hosted by CMT’s Katie Cook. Pretty sweet right? I know, I think so too.

Anyway because we had so many blogs help us to promote this unique event we decided to do some fun giveaways provided by some of our authors at UtopYA Con and some other authors.

Good luck and we’ll see you at UtopYA Con!

REVIEW - Florence by Ciye Cho

Title: Florence
Author: Ciye Cho
Series: Florence Waverley #1
Genre: YA Fantasy Romance
Expected Release: 1st July 2012
Links: Goodreads / Amazon
Source: eBook from Author

Summary:
Seventeen-year-old Florence Waverley is out of her depth. Literally. Kidnapped and taken below the waves to the mer world of Niemela, she is the ultimate gift for merman Prince Kiren: a human familiar tied to his side. But nothing is what it seems amid the beauty and danger of a dark ocean.

Every Niemelan has a role to play, from the mermaids who weave towers out of kelp to the warriors who fight sea monsters. But in trying to survive, Florence will end up in the middle of a war between the mer and the Darkness. A conflict that will push her between two brothers: Kiren, the charmer inexplicably drawn to both her and the monsters; and Rolan, the loner who has been pushing her away since the day they met. But in order to take a stand--and find out where she belongs--Florence will have to risk it all: her life, her heart... and her very soul.

5/5

This is only the second mermaid novel I have read but I have to say it is by far the best! Before starting this book I was in a bit of a reading slump but it managed to pull me out of it. It had me hooked, line and sinker (pun intended).
Cho has created a mesmerizing and enchanting world beneath the sea. This was one of the things I loved about this book; how it was actually set in the mermaids world and not ours. The beautifully vivid descriptions of this world will make you think you are actually there. You will be entranced by the lush and vibrant colours of this underwater kingdom, everything described down to the last detail. You could practically taste the kelp. You know that the author has done a lot of research.
The characters are the second reason I loved this book. Florence I really liked. I felt I could relate to her and how she goes by just observing life, never engaging in it. She experiences real character growth throughout the book and we get to see her finally come out of her shell a little. The mer folk I really enjoyed. Princess Yolee was a little cutie, I wanted to squeeze her. She is so fun and loving, she became a true friend to Florence. Prince Kiren I was always a bit wary of, even if he was a bit of a charmer. Prince Rolan we don't really get to know until about half way through the book. He is very distant and almost cold to begin with but then we see that there is more to his hard exterior. In the end I found myself rooting for him ( why is it I always seem to go for the brooding types?).
The story-line was well thought out. It was very interesting and kept you engaged in the book. It was never boring. The ending left me dying to know what happens next.

Overall this is a must read for any mermaid lovers out there. A spellbinding read that will leave you gasping for air and make you wish that this world actually existed and that you could be a part of it.

Side-note: I had the song Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid playing in my head the whole time while reading. Even though the lyrics should be the other way around. Now it's gonna be stuck in my head for days :P I love this song though so I'm not complaining :)

*I was provided with a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*

Waiting on Wednesday (#15)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine,
which spotlights upcoming books we can't wait to read.

My WoW for this week is:

Tiger's Destiny (The Tiger Saga #4) by Colleen Houck

Goodreads Summary:
With three of the goddess Durga's quests behind them, only one prophecy now stands in the way of Kelsey, Ren, and Kishan breaking the tiger's curse. But the trio's greatest challenge awaits them: A life-endangering pursuit in search of Durga's final gift, the Rope of Fire, on the Adaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal.

It's a race against time--and the evil sorcerer Lokesh--in this eagerly anticipated fourth volume of the bestselling Tiger's Curse series, which pits good against evil, tests the bonds of love and loyalty, and finally reveals the tiger's' true destiny once and for all.

My thoughts:
I love this series so I am so excited that the cover has finally been revealed. And I love it! It's so pretty.  I can't wait to see what happens in this installment.

Expected Release Date: September 4th 2012
